Your Mother Doesn't Work Here - How To Ace Employment Tests
Part One
It's All In Your Focus
Never consider answering test questions from anything but the worldview of the professional you. Look at yourself from an employer's point of view, and evaluate the professional behaviors that come into play and enable you to discharge your duties effectively. Examine the typical crises/emergencies that are likely to arise: What supportive professional behaviors are necessary to overcome them? Ask yourself, "How has my experience as a professional taught me to think and respond to this situation?"
Think of people you know who have failed on the job. Why did they fail? What have you learned from their mistakes and made part of the "professional you"? Think of people you know who have succeeded on the job. Why did they succeed? What have you learned from their success and made part of the "professional you?" Once you have completed these exercises, you will have effectively determined how a professional would react in a wide range of circumstances, and identified the ways in which you have developed a "professional self" to match that profile.
Always being in touch with the "professional you," is the single most critical mindset necessary for acing employment tests. This time next week I'll share more tips for surviving these tests.
